Liars

Sisterworld
I gotta say it’s hard for me to be impartial when it comes to Liars. I simply love them and I never grow tired of listening to their albums or going to their gigs. I was really looking forward to the new material and I haven’t been disappointed.
Sisterworld – the new Liars’ concept album could easily been pinpointed as the band masterpiece: is dark yet with bright sparkles, is retro but not the usual retro we got fed up of.
Nick Cave sounds at times, this murder point of view album will take you by the hand and guide you to the LA trio escape world: you’d never wish to have stepped in but you won’t come back.
Your journey to Liars’ escape world will scare the shit out of. While walking in a foggy atmosphere you’ll be suddenly waken up by the distorted noise of the guitar and Aaron chorus of Scarecrows On A Killer Slant: Angus voice melts with the drums and the rough guitar and everything is just weirdly perfect. Here Comes All The People with its freaky nursery rhyme made me shiver has it reminded me of Freddie Kreuger, but it was a shiver made of fear and excitement – I loved it.
You will eventually find peace with I Still Can See An Outside World, although it’s just like sunshine before heavy showers comes again (and pay attention to the guitar riff here, it’s amazing!).
Proud Evolution is probably the tune that most people would identify as Liars’ trademark sound/vocals (but then, Liars have accustomed us to the fact that they don’t have a so called trademark sound, this is why we love them): “reassuring” vocals and rhythm would make a Liars beginner feel safer during this complex journey.
Too Much, Too Much will show you the exit from Liars magic world and gently slap you in the face: you’re back in the real world now, but are you sure it is better than Sisterworld? I bet it isn’t.
The whole album structure is perfect: extreme attention to detail and to music composition and effects balance, in order to ensure that the idea of the journey – with its highs and lows – is respected. Careful listeners will also spot similarities with the Wire (which we do appreciate!).
