Former Novello front man Nick B Byrne goes solo with 4:15 AM. The album is a solid mix of understated serenades (So You Say) and riff-heavy jams (Lies). The latter tracks (though in a minority) are what really give the album its life, though there’s a lot to be said for the quiet emotion of stand-out track (and album single) Anna – indeed, Byrne’s speciality appears to be taking what begin as simple acoustic tracks and adding layer upon layer of sound, eventually building to dramatic and moving climaxes every time. It may not be groundbreaking, but it’s an enjoyable listen and showcases just how experienced Byrne is as a musician. An effortlessly good album.
