ALEX BUREY – Waiting on Tomorrow

‘Waiting on Tomorrow’ is a standalone single from original songwriter and producer Alex Burey. Following his previous two EPs Family Stone and Inside World, Burey again manages to deliver a heart-warming inventive track which is bathed in a 1960’s warmth and splendour, sitting somewhere in between a vintage montage and a 21st century sonic creation. By this, I mean there are clear reference points in his music – Scott Walker for its flavour of the avant-garde, Paolo Nutini for his smooth vocals and a clear compositional intellect which is combined with his talent for producing.
Burey manages to reject any expectation of merely RnB or easy listening soul, and is a far-cry from the crowded music scene made up of young men and their acoustic guitars or overly produced contemporary dance music. Instead, Alex captures a modest and thoughtfully produced ambience, moulding Hammond organ, clean and funk guitars, am almost ‘Amy Winehouse’ freedom in vocal approach with a mature electronic slant. This is all neatly tied up in a charming psychedelic box!
We are treated to an understated release which all in all is a refreshing and chirpy record. It was in fact created in New York and London and also features soulful contributions from The Dap-Kings. Obviously, Alex Burey is an exciting young man who oozes talent and potential for the future.
