Flyte Chat About Their Song-writing Inspirations For #PluggedIn60

Believe us when we tell you that Flyte are one of the most promising bands to emerge from the underground UK indie pop scene in the past few years. It feels that the majority of the best indie pop acts from the last decade have ditched that joyously jangly guitar sound in favour of nostalgic 80s synths, which make Flyte’s relatively straightforward approach to indie song-writing and recording particularly refreshing.
Song-writing is the focus of this new clip in Original Penguin’s #PluggedIn60 series, which sees the London four-piece chatting about their influences, with the key ingredient being the song-writing quality from the decade we all wish we grew up in: the 1960s. Will Taylor (vocals and guitar), Sam Berridge (guitar and keys), Nick Hill (bass) and Jon Supran (drums) name-check Paul Simon and, of course, the Beatles as inspirations, before discussing who they think are making the best and most interesting music today (it’s no surprise to hear them mention AAA favourites Arcade Fire, since both bands share a love for deep, atmospheric pop melodies).
Check out the video above and fall in love with one of the brightest, up and coming indie bands – these guys are talented, handsome and, crucially, not afraid to inject a little fun and optimism into their music. Believe.
