Extraordinarily and interestingly complex character Tyler, The Creator offers a unique style of hip-hop. ‘F*****G YOUNG / PERFECT’ is a video single off Tyler’s third solo album ‘Cherry Bomb, which shows off the complex and unique vision of Tyler, The Creator – who is not just a lyricist and a songwriter but has equal talents in production, comedy, directing and fashion.
The song is about a perfect girl and an explanation of how Tyler wants this relationship to work out. The song has an interesting and complex layering of talent thrown in with vocal help from singer-songwriter Charlie Wilson and production from Chaz Bundick and Cole Alexander. The production reminds me of that kind present during that chillwave movement from 2011.
The video is very bright and comedic and has a joyous yet obscure 60s throwback look to it. The video is directed by Wolf Haley with DP from Luis Ponch Perez and video production by Tara Razavi, and features Tyler’s buddies from the extremely amusing TV show Loiter Squad, including Taco Bennett, Earl Sweatshirt and Lionel Boyce.
Overall this is quite zany, yet if you’re a fan of Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future and Loiter Squad then this will not be unfamiliar at all. The production is great and gets a firm four stars from me.
