‘Baby Blue’ by Action Bronson featuring Chance The Rapper with production from Mark Ronson – what a great combination!
Mr Wonderful is a big album for Action Bronson, one that will define his career, and it seems he has the backing of the best producers in the business; Mark Ronson is certainly at the highest kind of production levels and has made successful hip hop records before, like ‘Ooh Wee’ with Ghostface Killah and Nate Dogg.
‘Baby Blue’ demonstrates an alternative side to Action Bronson, delivering a chorus structure to the song before delivering the verse that deals with the “relationship problem” subject matter. The chorus then breaks before the instruments change and the song breaks down into Chance The Rapper’s verse. I think Chance delivers a great verse and does not seem out of place alongside Action Bronson.
An interesting collaboration, resulting in a song that is a bit rough around the edges, but remaining catchy and simple enough to lure fans into listening to each verse with anticipation. The beat is good and sits well with Action Bronson’s vocals and the mix into Chance’s second verse is excellent, so credit to Mark Ronson, who can really pull a rabbit out of a hat when it comes to production.
This track definitely has its own theme to it and I think it was a bold move for Action Bronson; one that paved the way for the launch of the album Mr Wonderful at the end of last month.
