Sir Simon Rattle To Play Two RFH Concerts

Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker perform two concerts at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall as part of The London Residency 2015.
Both concerts feature Mahler’s Symphony No.2 with Kate Royal(soprano) and Magdalena Kožená (mezzo-soprano) as well as Lachenmann’s Tableau for orchestra (14 & 15 February). Rattle also leads the 100-piece mixed-ability Young Orchestra for London (15 February) – a joint education project between Southbank Centre and the Barbican Guildhall bringing together musicians aged 11 to 21 of Grade 3 standard and higher – with a programme that includes Sibelius’ Finlandia, and a movement from Malcolm Arnold’s Little Suite No.2, plus a newly commissioned piece entitled Zero at the Bone by composer Stephen Montague. The residency also features the 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker (15 February 2015) and a performance in Queen Elizabeth Hall by the Philharmonic Octet Berlin of Nielsen’sSerenata in vano, Franz Berwald’s Septet and Schubert’s Octet (13 February 2015).
