DESPERATE JOURNALIST – Control

I don’t think I’d even managed to press play by the time the scintillating sounds of Desperate Journalist were gracing my eardrums…
I tell you what, you’re unlikely to hear a female singer that’ll give you flashbacks of vintage Morrissey than this – there’s all the vocal talent and ability to construct phrases to perfection without any of the arrogance.
‘Control‘ has got an absolutely blinding chorus, aided by a powerful selection of drum fills, lyrical determination and a selection of ace guitar choices that I’m still not quite able to wrap my head around. In fact, the guitar riffs throughout are incredibly impressive – drenched in Johnny Marr-esque sounds, they remain as rapid as they are melodic and, supported by a rather meaty bass sound, they drive this track to a climax so intense that you wouldn’t believe the track doesn’t cross the three minute mark.
If three minutes is indeed the perfect length for a pop song then this talented foursome have undoubtedly created a thoroughbred of a track that’s filled with moments of sheer wonder. From one Desperate Journalist to another: keep it up!
