DON BROCO – Money Power Fame

| On 08, Dec 2014

‘Money Power Fame’ sounds like an alluring cocktail for any rock band, but for Don Broco these assets appear to be symptoms of half-hearted song writing, copy and paste verse-chorus’s, and a new single so average, it makes King A. Verage’s Medium beige trousers look perfectly daring.

The latest record from the four-piece signals a new season of touring and the release of the soon-to-be unveiled 2014 album. The band have created something with potential, but forsaken another track to a musical graveyard of incredibly repetitive lyrics and painfully toneless verses. This may be an intentional move so as not to confuse the fans, but I can’t help feeling that there is more to a rock song than making people ‘get up’ – surely a low aspiration.

Drummer Matt Donnely stands out from the din with a supporting vocal performance that’ll make you wish he were centre stage. Sony Music also deserve a mention as the song really benefits from well-distributed instrumentation and some fine mixing work, creating a very radio-friendly rock song. Broco have previously been described as alternative-rock and post-hardcore, but this song really sounds like nothing more than thinly veiled pop punk with an edgy guitar riff.

If you are a fan of Don Broco, then you are bound to love it, as it does everything Priorities did, but slightly more boisterously. As with all Don Broco tracks, it’s bouncy. However, for anyone hoping to hear something new, ‘Money Power Fame’ doesn’t buy happiness.

Pick up your copy of ‘Money Power Fame’ now or pre-order what is currently known as TBC (Standard Album) – which we hope isn’t an unfortunate foreshadowing.

Don Broco will headline the Kerrang! tour in February 2015…
