P MONEY – Originators

P Money has risen through the grime ranks, dabbled with dubstep, and stepped in the ring with Ghetts, coming out on top.
‘Originators’ is a new development, aiming for a more direct approach with a mainstream club-banger style and P lyrically delivers with some very tight production. ‘Originators’ is definitely something aimed at the clubs and it’s a very radio friendly follow up to 2013’s Round the Clock.
The video is good quality but there is nothing that really catches my imagination. It’s a day in the life of P Money and cuts from meeting girlfriends then going to the studio, then a blur of people on rooftops dancing and spinning records showing off these “P” T shirts P is merchandising, and then cuts to girls dancing in clubs, champagne flowing, etc.
The hook, production and the verses are tight but I don’t think this is going to make me rush to my iTunes and purchase the upcoming EP or make a Top 20 UK chart appearance. However, when grime acts enter the mainstream, I think it’s important they keep diverse so I think this it’s a good move for P Money. Nevertheless, I’m yet to be wowed by this release. This is a solid three-star slice of borderline pop music; it’s nice to hear P Money mention some “Originators” in the lyrics. For me, however, this track and video fall short of the original masterpieces from back in the day.
