Ward Thomas – Live @ O2 Oxford

Sunday 9th November, Oxford
The duo Ward Thomas grew up on a farm in rural Hampshire listening to country music that inspired them including Johnny Cash, The Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss and Carrie Underwood.
The talented twin sisters are Lizzie and Catherine Ward Thomas. From Where We Stand, their debut album released in July, 2014 on WTW Music, was recorded in Nashville. It’s in the style of an American country album, excellently written and sung vibrantly with fine harmonies and good guitar work.
Their O2 Oxford gig began with the catchy and energetic ‘The Good And The Right’ together with amusing ‘Town Called Ugley’ and both were rocky and fast moving. ‘Cartwheels’ had great intimacy and beauty, followed by the charming and delicate cover of ‘Caledonia’ by Scottish folk musician Dougie MacLean. In the lively and uplifting ‘Push For The Stride‘ they chased personal dreams and there was a powerful cover of Dolly Parton’s award-winning anthem ‘9 to 5.’
Ward Thomas have an individual and distinctive style. They sing with passion and confidence and their songs are fresh, fun and playful. They’ll probably continue to be adored by demanding country fans on the reverse side of the Atlantic in search of new music that’s exciting, infectious and original.
This O2 Oxford evening was part of a joint tour with the stunning and impressive Decca signed band The Shires, which are taking turns to headline during their fifteen live performances this November.
