NORTH ATLANTIC OSCILLATION - The Third Day

North Atlantic Oscillation is a band from Edinburgh who have already gained success with their debut album, released few years ago.

Their forthcoming album called The Third Day was released in October via Kscope records. These tracks reveal NOA’s capability to merge avant-garde electronics and prog-rock with no harm to either genre. The Third Day feels like a unity not only because of the genuine sound but also due to fact that there are no spaces left between the tracks, each of them floating accurately from one to another.

The opening  track ‘Great Plains’ is a meditative space-rock piece with symphonic epilogue. ‘August’ has a heavier sound, although the trademark space symphonic sounds can be heard here as well. North Atlantic Oscillation filmed a video for ‘August’, with visuals that develop the band’s interest in mysterious Codex Seraphinianus.

Another track, ‘Wires’, is closer to pop-rock. Here Ben Martin’s vocals seem to balance between Sigur Ros and Keane stylistics. ‘Pines of Eden’ is a soulful soundtrack that could be a perfect illustration for a way back home in some mainstream movie. Pulsating ‘Dust’ is one of the most energetic tracks of The Third Day, which stills retains North Atlantic Oscillation’s ethereal sonics.

The final track of the album is ‘When to Stop’. This is a tender, mostly acoustic ballad drawing a final line under the latest album of North Atlantic Oscillation and leaving an open space for speculations on what to expect from future albums.
