THE 2 BEARS – The Night Is Young

The mystically melodic opening track ‘Get Out’ of The 2 Bears new and second studio album The Night is Young draws you in straight from the off. Nice lyrics and a slow piano chord breakdown progresses into a firm bass line and from there you are hooked.
The follow-up to the first track ‘Angel (Touch Me)’ fades in perfectly, with its introduction having a 90s piano house vibe about it. This song sounds like it’s a self-healing/cry-for-help song as lyrics claim: “I need an angel to touch me, and tell me it’s all gonna be alright.” In what sounds like negative lyrics, the potential for a downer is abolished as the track is so upbeat and if anything makes you feel really good!
‘Not This Time’ continues with heavy emphasis on the lovely sounding piano chords and more of a funky bass line. Still remains upbeat and positive. ‘Unbuild It’ kicks off differently on the kick drum which is complimented with the consistent piano sound that has been evident so far within the album. The tail end of ‘Unbuild It’ has an additional few notes that sound similar to what an alien spacecraft would sound like communicating to humans. Leading into a slower tempo song ‘Modern Family’ it allows for your heartbeat to calm a little and settle into the well written lyrics that have been ever-present throughout the album so far.
A drastic change up half way through the album throws up a pleasant surprise. In ‘Money Man’ we switch down to more reggae vibes, most notably the Rastafarian sounding man singing beautifully. A song that still has dance music elements, a touch of Bob Marley and also gives you permission to sit back and relax.
Once again we are offered another change up of a more serious note. ‘Son Of The Sun’ enters with a thunderous kick drum beat that could penetrate your inner core and leads you into music that would sound good with loads of laser’s firing off. It sounds incredibly dark and moody, something of which I am a big fan of. A total contrast to the opening half of the album. ‘Mary Mary’ is by far the most progressive sounding track of The Night is Young – quite odd sounding but easy on the ears, opening with some acoustic guitar.
‘Run Run’ relies again on a heavy kick drum start and strange sounds in the background to keep your attention. It progresses from there into what sounds similar to a person tapping glasses or some kind of object with a drumstick. The vocal breaks out into a chant like notion and then the bass line kicks in smoothly with added extras all complimenting one another. It’s as if you’re walking through a jungle. A very intriguing track.
The next track ‘See You’ opens up with what sounds like a Mario Kart theme tune, but better. Very playful ,with a deep bass line and fun lyrics. The concluding songs of the album include ‘My Queen’ and ‘The Night is Young’. A special mention for the fantastic title track and album name sake.
I enjoyed listening to The Night is Young. ‘Get Out’, ‘Angel (Touch Me)’, ‘Money Man’ and ‘Son of the Sun’ are tracks I have highlighted as my favourites on the album. The different sounds and moods portrayed throughout the album highlight a nice message, even though I dare say there are other deeper meanings within some songs. For me, when you say “The Night is Young”, it creates optimism and excitement for the night ahead. It means anything could still come about so relax and let it happen.
