Across a spectacular five days and nights of music at the stunning 19th century Fort Punta Christo, Croatia, Dimensions takes place just above the dazzling Adriatic sea with unparalleled sound-systems and some of the world’s leading electronic talent.
The festival has just announced American band Warpaint as its latest headliner. The all-female quartet traverse everything between hypnotic, psychedelic harmonies to sensual rhythms and pulsing bass lines. Their second album has received rave reviews, and they offer yet another new perspective to Dimensions’ vibrant soundscape this summer. Next up is Dan Snaith performing as Daphni, who after headlining the spectacular opening concert of Dimensions 2014 as Caribou, brings his more club and dance-focused project to the fore.
Theo Parrish now performs live as well as DJing at Dimensions, with an incredible cast of support around him for his never before seen show; Amp Fiddler on keys, Akwasi Mensah on bass, Duminie DePorres on electric guitar and ex-Electric Wire Hustle member Myele Manzanza form a sublime quartet of resounding talent. As a founding third of Underground Resistance, M-Plant boss Robert Hood is one of electronic music’s most important figures. A true originator and pioneer, helping to shape and craft the more minimal side of techno, he remains a thrilling DJ and continues to innovate with his new guise Floorplan. Then there’s Jackmaster and Oneman (Can U Dance), two of the best DJs on the scene who form a brilliant party duo to bring more fun times to Dimensions, their music bouncing around to everything from UK garage to bass-heavy boogie.
Further names announced reinforce Dimensions’ techno-honed edge. Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Nick Hoppner and Tama Sumo are no strangers to the bastion of Berlin’s epicentre of hedonism at Berghain as four of its iconic residents; bringing some of that fabled club’s raw DNA to Dimensions heralds a thrilling dose of pure techno across Punta Christo. US experimentalist R&B singer Kelela brings her distinctly unique vocal slant to Dimensions. Hailing from the States’ West Coast, The Internet fuse trip-hop, electronica and neo-soul to stunning effect. And Paul Woolford’s new project, Special Request, has seen him embracing a much wider template of sounds, creating one of the albums of 2103 with Soul Music fusing combining rave, house, grime and jungle.
Further names announced include Petar Dundov, Onra, Trus’Me, Flako, Calibre, Rosie Lowe, Matthew Halsall Trio, Gogo Penguin, Kutmah, Ilija Rudman, Greg Beato, Si Tew, Eddy Ramich, Barker, Planas, Jabru, Jet Letts, Miss Sunshine, Lixo and Jonny Dub.
Performing At The Opening Concert
Dimensions once again takes over the stunning 2000 year old amphitheatre near Fort Punta Christo for the opening concert on Wednesday 27th August, a unique element of the festival experience. Acclaimed headliner Caribou takes centre stage, alongside Darkside, the equally thrilling union of Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, their collaborative excursions creating masterful pieces of electronica. Support comes from the experimental producer and composer Nils Frahm and singer Kwabs, whose soulful, powerful and enchanting voice mixes his African roots, r ‘n’ b and gospel influences to mesmerising effect.
Performing At The Festival
Across Dimensions’ five days and nights of music there is an abundance of riches; twice Mercury-prize nominated and mercurial producer Jon Hopkins performs live, as does the legendary funk, soul and jazz artist Roy Ayers, adding a different perspective on what is star quality; his incredible voice is set to wow the masses. One of house and techno’s true pioneers, Moodymann, offers rare edits and party gems. Esteemed techno duo Juan Atkins & Moritz von Oswald are on hand to keep things heavy, as are Detroit heavyweight techno collective Underground Resistance.
Gilles Peterson returns to Dimensions, the Worldwide wonder bringing his vast knowledge to Croatia, with iconic duo Metro Area playing live and the critically-acclaimed Omar singing live brings his richly textured live sounds to Fort Punta Christo. One of the world’s most in-demand DJs, Nina Kraviz, makes her debut, with the genre-hopping beat-crafter Floating Points returning. Digital Mystikz’s Mala (live), Hyperdub’s Kode 9 and brilliant duo Tikiman (live) & Scion offer rousing dub, bass, jungle and reggae. Anthony “Shake” Shakir, Karizma, Goldie, Ben UFO, Move D, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Axel Boman, Kaytranada, Blawan and more star too.
With a peerless approach in harnessing only the most exciting, challenging, diverse and respected talent there is, the festival features not only some of the biggest acts around but the next generation of stars rising up. Dimensions is a pure distillation of the world’s finest electronic music, carefully filtered through strains of house, techno, jazz, funk, soul, drum and bass, psych and more, by the scene’s leading producers, DJs and live acts, to create a kaleidoscopic melting-pot of amazing music.
