SLOW CLUB - Tears of Joy

Sheffield duo Slow Club dream up the transient little single ‘Tears of Joy’ featuring a mix of gentle soul styles and electronic throbs, all for your pleasure. The understated harmonising of past and present comes together in a masterfully relaxing, tidy and uncomplicated track; showcasing an effective use of intricate instrumentals. The chorus is charmingly catchy and the guitar jangles, and electronic beeps that float around the song give a certain underwater or cosmos feel.

An essence of Dusty Springfield elegance swims through the track, as we wade through calm, cool waters of the soul-inspired ‘Tears of Joy’; the gentle guitar flicks providing sharp splashes accompanying the pulsed drum beat. In 21st Century terms you can make the connection between Slow Club’s gentle and ‘dream-state’ singing style with bands such as MGMT and, more specifically, the ‘hippy’ feel of newer bands Edward Sharpe & Magnetic Zeros or Peace.

‘Tears of Joy’ is a pleasurable, inviting and laidback track with all the right ingredients to relax your soul and satisfy your musical needs. This laidback feeling is best symbolised by the sound of ‘Easy like Sunday Morning’ resonating in the closing minute of the song; you’ll know what I mean.
