BELLADONNA – Karma Warrior / If I Was God

It’s not easy to still create something new about music. Something innovative to attribute to a specific artist. But in this case we can say that Belladonna is the band who invented a new music genre called rock noir. The term was cemented by the Italian quintet in 2005 with their first album, Metaphysical Attraction, and describes a rock style similar to gothic music but more mysterious, grotesque and theatrical. It’s connected with struggle and violence and the lyrics tell dramatic and aggressive stories.
Belladonna has now released their fourth album, Shooting Dice With God, anticipated by the two singles ‘Karma Warrior’ and ‘If I Was God’. The first one has a classic rock attitude but hiding in the shadow a mystical and gothic sounding. The second song is an acoustic ballad with a strong melancholic and dark background. The melodic voice of the singer Luana Caraffa, not always perfect but still emotional, is a meeting between the metal style of Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil and the new wave attitude of Siouxie Sioux.
Belladonna is made up of Luana Caraffa (voice), Dani Macchi (guitar), Valentina De Iullis (piano), Anastasia Angelini (bass) and Mattia Mari (drums). They are the pioneers of a new rock genre and Shooting Dice With God, released on 24th February, is still totally along the noir line.
