‘Closer’ is a glossy compact single (approximately just 2 minutes and 21 seconds) taken from Thief’s same titled EP, which was released in his homeland of Australia at the end of 2013. The single is a combination of the singer-songwriter’s soulful vocals, upbeat melody and beautifully placed electronic keyboard which is juxtaposed against the seriousness of break up lyrics, “I’m too tired of watching you fuck me over” which adds a sweet but sour tone to the song. Though the subject matter is conventional of most pop songs, it is the common bond of love and hurt that makes this song relatable. With such clean crisp production it is no wonder that Thief, previously known as PJ Wolf swapped his guitars for synthesisers for this brand new project; which seems set to blow up this year as he prepares to debut in the US at SXSW in March, as well as visiting our shores in May to perform at The Great Escape.
‘Closer’ is due out March 25th via Rabble Records and will be followed by Closer EP on May 12th.
