Entering her fourth decade as one of the most singular and distinctive voices in rock music, a career that includes playing in influential groups, Boston based Thalia Zedek shows no signs of creative fatigue. Throughout the 1980s she rose to prominence fronting Uzi and Live Skull, before founding Matador Records signed alt-rock band Come with Chris Brokaw (of Codeine) in 1990.
After Come called it a day in 2001, Zedek began making music under her own name to high acclaim. Upon the release of 2008’s ‘Liars and Prayers’, Time Out New York proclaimed, “Nothing draws as much blood as the work of this songwriter, one of the most painfully honest and brilliant anywhere”. On 2013’s ‘Via’, Zedek presents a collection of songs that range from the harrowing to the heartfelt and praised by the likes of Pitchfork, Q, Spin, Uncut, Magnet, Rock-A-Rolla and The Financial Times. Regardless of her status as a pioneering woman in independent rock, her music stands on its own in its startling honesty.
Thalia Zedek is set to release a mini-album entitled ‘SIX’ this February in advance of her most extensive European tour in six years, which includes a an intimate London show upstairs at The Garage in March.
“One of alt-rock’s great voices” – Q Magazine
“Zedek specializes in thorny songs that unflinchingly address adult topics and full-grown problems, with the malleable backing of her guitar and band providing either momentary refuge or sympathetic cries of exasperation” – Pitchfork
“Thoughtful tempo and tender lyric evoke Patti Smith’s recent mournful mood” – MOJO
“Viola-nuanced melancholy and ghost who won’t let you be on the brimming opening track [Walk Away] from the first album [Via] in five years from the veteran Boston rocker and former Live Skull/Come singer” – Uncut
“Via is a rustically epic delight” – Rock-A-Rolla
