AYALA – On My Way

It very rarely happens that I hear and song and think: “that has totally been born into the wrong era”. I know we say it about people all the time, but this time I genuinely feel that this song has missed its demographic by about ten years. It would have been on your shelf next to Delta Goodrem, Kelly Clarkson back in the day, maybe even Celine Dion. It’s really poppy, which is no bad thing whatsoever, but it’s really early noughties pop which isn’t all that popular at the moment among young adults – presuming that’s even her target demographic. With lyrics such as “When paradise is out of reach”… “I’ll be there to guide your way”… “I’ll be there to hold your hand”… “No matter the fight it will be okay” – you get the picture; it’s quite sickly, soppy kind of lyrics that really worked about ten years ago. Ayala really goes for it in the second verse, and kind of loses control of her vocals which is a shame. It just didn’t really tickle my fancy as I couldn’t really empathise with the lyrics, and the music itself wasn’t strong enough to make it really enjoyable. It’s not the worst song ever, but I just don’t think it will sit well with among young adults, and may be better suited to slightly older generations.
