‘Root To The Seed’ is an easy listening track, with This Silent Forest focusing on a clear drumbeat and wandering electric guitar. The distinctive Scottish accent of the singer also contributes to the overall smooth musicality of the song.

At five minutes long, ‘Root To The Seed’ takes that time to build up. Though this seems to take forever while listening, it is definitely worth the wait. There is some serious passion in the lead singer’s voice, drawing the listener in to the world within the song. At about four minutes, there is a guitar explosion that ties the song together, before fading back the way it started.

With the mix of the emotional lyrics about a father and son’s relationship and the control giving way to an almost unorganized guitar and drum solo (much like Bon Iver’s creative genius within a musical mess), it makes the listener think that the band sometime feels as though the instruments can say it better than they can through lyrics.

Autumn 2013 marks the release of the This Silent Forest’s debut album, Indivision. The four friends from Glasgow – Graeme MacDonald (vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Daisuke (lead guitar, lead vocals), JJ McGowan (bass, vocals) and Ewan McDonald (drums) – classify themselves as power Indie, and they firmly sit within that genre with this single.

As a first offering, ‘Root to the Seed’ shows that This Silent Forest are heading in a good, clear direction and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
