AAAmusic: Who are you and where are you from?
We are two sisters who grew up in Gävle, Northern Sweden. Caviare Days was founded in 2009 when we lived in Brooklyn, where we recorded our first songs and started to form our sound. Since two years back we are a five-piece rock band based in Stockholm.
AAAmusic: What inspired you to get into music?
We never really decided beforehand what type of genre we would be aiming for, we just sit down and write and whatever comes out, comes out. We grew up with our Mum and Dad listening to the Kinks, the Who, Jethro Tull, 10cc, Joni Mitchell, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, so it’s not surprising that we have a sixties feel to what we’re doing. But then there are tons of other influences, of course; as long as we focus on what we want to express, we won’t mind if the sound fits the genre or not.
AAAmusic: What have you done?
We started out as a duo, but always wanted to have a full band. So when we found our drummer (Timmy Grim), keyboardist (Marcus Arborelius) and eventually our guitarist (Boris Grubesic), that’s when things started to feel real. We’re proud of the fact that we managed to find each other dynamically in such a short time, and keeping everyone involved in creating new music is truly one of our greatest accomplishments. It is hard to tell when it comes to the impact we’ve made so far, but it has been really interesting to see how our work travels, ending up in places impossible to foresee.
AAAmusic: What are you like live?
Anything can happen when you play live. We never use backing tracks, which makes the performance very flexible and playful. Of course it depends on where, when and how – but we always give 100%. One of the first tours we did was with The Soundtrack Of Our Lives in late 2010. Recently, we supported LA psych rockers Allah-Las. They are both amazing.
AAAmusic: What makes you different?
Caviare Days is unique in both physical formation and sound. A rock’n’roll band with two sisters fronting, no bass player, and three wonderful musicians that differ from each other quite a lot in personality. We all have very different cultural and musical backgrounds, with Timmy (drummer) coming from punk, stoner rock and jazz, Marcus (keyboards) from a more soul and gospel-oriented background, and Boris (guitar) who gets his musical input from outer space and his Bosnian heritage.
AAAmusic: Physical vs Downloading vs Streaming…How do you listen to music?
It depends on what kind of music you listen to and how it’s produced. Our album sounds much better on vinyl than through a computer. While streaming music online you loose the three-dimensional feeling that is usually very important to the sound. The compressed mp3-format can take away the soul of many bands, while some new music is designed to sound better when streamed.
AAAmusic: What have you been listening to?
We’re all constantly looking for new musical influences; it could be odd rarities from a few decades back, like Philamore Lincoln, Margo Guryan and D.R. Hooker, or something more contemporary, such as Ty Segall or James Blake.
AAAmusic: What are your aspirations for the future?
Career wise, we are moving towards releasing our music in new, exciting areas, starting with Europe. In the UK, we are releasing our second single on September 23, followed by the full-length album that is due October 7. There will be a bit of touring etc. We are planning to start record our new album in Berlin during October, which is exciting. We also have a dream of heading over to the US in the beginning of next year to finish recording. We have a few very interesting options of producers, so fingers crossed!
