MONKS OF MELLONWAH – Ghost Stories

Kicking back on a warm summer night, listening to Monks of Mellonwah’s recent mini album Ghost Stories, is a perfect way to spend summer evenings.
Monks of Mallonwah or MOM for short, hail from Sydney Australia, which influence with the uplifting, indie alternative, possibly surfer type tone set here in the album.
With soulful words to the song Ghost Stories and a 57 second intro of a strumming guitar and slow drum beat, that build to the album’s title song. Ghost Stories has the promise of a strong receivership of love within their fan base, as well as outsiders.
Electro vibes hit out from the song ‘Vanity’ and go on in the indie alternative Aussi bands album. With a heavy onslaught of electrifying guitar solo and “ooh” “ahh” running throughout, second track ‘Vanity’ is an easy listening one, with an alternative rock twist.
A prog rock sort of sound creeps out from the tracks, suggesting influences from Led Zeppelin and possibly recent arena fillers, Muse, with that powerful guitar work along with the strong lyrical content. However for me, it kind of reminds me of a young Incubus in the Morning View days, just a little bit in Sailing Stones, track 4.
Monks of Mellonwah’s Ghost Stories is a vibrant mini album which is lively from the start and one that will have heads nodding along with the cool beats within the tracks.
