HANA B – Merry-Go-Round

There are bands who have that quid you can’t explain, it’s like love at first sight or at first hearing. Either way you’ll crave more concerts, more songs, more albums. It’s like a fix you need to get by. Luckily for me, I met the Hana B with two records done so I had catch up to do. The band have been active for the past ten years, although they released their first album Camera Oscura in 2006. Fans had to wait quite a while for the second record Ruins’ Hotel, that came four years later. At the beginning of 2013, the band spent a whole month recording the new album anticipated by ‘Merry-Go-Round‘. The new record, Doors, will be released at the end of summer and, according to the single and its b-side ‘A Hole In My Soul‘, we can expect something different from this talented band.
The rock base is still there but the new single is contaminated with electronic veins and effects. Music and lyrics draw a dark picture and Fab Vitale‘s hoarse and mesmerizing voice brings you deep in this pinwheel created by the mix of instruments and voice. The song has a rhythmic beat that will stick with you from the first time you hear it. The refrain is built on the contrast of the singer clearer tone and a warm and scratching voice in the background. And trust me when I tell you your heart will sink when you’ll hear it.
The band, made up by Fab Vitale (voice), Valerio Morrone (drums), Francesco Menegat (bass) and Alessandro Ciani (guitar), opened the Placebo Italian tour in 2010 and, in 2011, released the single ‘Don’t let me go‘ to support Save the Children‘s campaign Every One.
Now we only need to sit and wait for the new album and tour. Impatiently.
