Charlie Straight – I Sleep Alone

Despite the rainy morning in London, it is still possible to find a reason to foolishly dance in front of the window. This reason is the new upcoming single ‘I Sleep Alone‘ by the Czech band Charlie Straight; the single features the collaboration of the Oscar-winning-singer Marketa Irglova.
Closer to the tradition of the new Indie-folk rock genre which has its main representatives in the Mumford and Sons, rather than the Britpop bands Oasis and Blur, the Czech quartet proposes a music based on tunes accompanied by pinched guitars. Their songs slowly build up and simple but effective lyrics that have the ability to depict the world in its tiny and common situation.
In the new single, Albert and Marketa voices are entangled together exalting each others, giving back a feeling of freshness, youth and hope despite the lyrics about an old love gone but still cherished. It opens with a sound of laughing and after a couple of seconds the music starts and has the sound of a modern folk ballade.
The hope is this band will grow and gain more artistic maturity rather than hold onto a childish and carefree image, like many promising indie bands did going from bright to same-old-same-old.
The quartet, made up by Albert Cerny, Johnny Cienciala, Michal Šupák, Pavel Pilch, after building a conspicuous fanbase in Czech Republic and Germany, it is preparing to play in London later this month (they scheduled two dates the 23rd and 25th May).
Charlie Straight supported Red Hot Chili Peppers during their last tour in August 2012 in Prague; besides their video ‘Someone With a Slow Heartbeat‘ was promoted on Coldplay‘s website.
