SOAP&SKIN – Sugarbread

Anja Plaschg is back with a new EP. Filled with the influence of acts like Bjork and Nico, the EP is an edgy carry on from Soap&Skin’s usual work. The EP makes heavy use of choir elements, particularly in the first track ‘Sugarbread’. This gives an eerie, unearthly and almost religious feel to the music. The screaming in the first track certainly gets the ears listening. There is also much use of strings, the cello in particular stands out in Me And The Devil. The music feels very supernatural and ethereally emotional. It’s a step on from Soap&Skin’s previous albums – this EP features a higher range of instruments in addition to Anja’s trademark piano. It’s an evocative and emotionally rich treat for the ears, wonderfully experimental compared to a lot of mainstream music that has been produced lately.
