SAM LEE – Goodbye My Darling
aaamusic | On 27, Feb 2013
Inventive and influential folk musician Sam Lee is inspired by travellers and gypsy communities. He’s the first folk singer to teach at the Royal College of Music and sings and plays jews harp together with the shruti box, an Indian instrument which gives a rich drone.
Sam Lee’s band is Francesca Ter-Berg (cello), Jonah Brody (percussion, ukulele, koto), Camilo Tirado (percussion, tabla), Steve Chadwick (trumpet) and Flora Curzon (fiddle).
Goodbye My Darling, taken from his debut Mercury nominated album Ground of Its Own, will be released on 11th March, 2013 by The Nest Collective. It’s produced by Gerry Diver.
This elegant love song is a simple ‘transported convict’ lament about broken hearts and sadness. Sung with sincerity, it’s also upbeat and fiery. Sam Lee researches the archaic songs of traditional music and celebrates the English folk song in a fresh and creative way. With a gentle, natural style he creates a rich musical tapestry, imaginative and mysterious.
