IZZI DUNN – Visions
aaamusic | On 20, Jan 2013
Acclaimed cello player Izzi Dunn is a fine jazz and soul vocalist. She’s worked with Damon Albarn, Mark Ronson, Roots Manuva, Jay Electronica, Soul II Soul, Bobby Womack and George Harrison.
Her new four track EP Visions is released on her own Idunnit label on 23rd January, 2013. It follows her Big Picture EP and respected second solo album Cries And Smiles. Much of the writing and arrangement is by Izzi.
Sultry Devil’s Apprentice is a slow, confident blues number with low key instrumentation. Her menacing lyrics include the enigmatic ‘devil ain’t got nothing on you’. Picture of You delicately moves with great charm, beauty and elegance. The bluesy It Wasn’t Love contains an intense ‘hurricane’ of emotions and some amusing lyrics which clearly separate lust from love. Visions, the melancholic title track, has an atmospheric orchestra backing co-written with French artist Patrice.
These are raw, edgy, direct songs with introspective lyrics by a talented and imaginative artist. The orchestration is impressive and sophisticated and Izzi’s wonderfully soft voice is warm, sincere and inviting. Jazz fans will enjoy this intimate and personal EP.
