Geva Alon – I See The Love

Is it just me that’s interested in the stigma that a band or a musician gets for being huge somewhere other than the UK or America? There’s always a sense of novelty that reflects on both the music fans of the country itself and the band that means one can’t quite take either of them seriously, like Spinal Tap being massive in Japan, or Manowar being something of a cult in Russia. Israeli Singer-songwriter Geva Alon sidesteps most of this stigma by virtue of actually being from the country he’s huge in, but what this song, the new single from his fourth album In The Morning Light, says about the music buying public of Israel is something quite a lot less complimentary. Actually, that’s not entirely fair. It’s not outright bad, in fact it’s decidedly pleasant, but not much more. Coming on like what a lot of people thought Noel Gallagher’s solo album would sound like, it’s a sauntering, acoustic led strum with Alon crooning over the top of it about “feeling the warmth of a thousand suns”. All very satisfactory, all very middle of the road, and his third album was just certified Gold in Israel. Good for him but it is kind of difficult to see what all the fuss is about..
