LAURIE LEVINE – Six Winters

South African singer-songwriter Laurie Levine has been performing live for six years. She combines folk, blues, country, African and Appalachian music and has twice been nominated for a SAMA (South African Music Award).
Six Winters, her third album, is released on ADA/Warners on 10th December, 2012. It was produced by Dan Roberts and uses 17 different instruments played by some fine musicians. These include banjo, violin, steel guitar and harmonica.
Oh Brother is a song about the desire to escape grief, pain and sadness whilst Six Winters contrasts with its upbeat piano and violin backing. Stray playfully tells of a woman waiting for her lover to return. Not Gonna Cry is strong, defiant and powerful and the gentle but beautiful Hand To My Heart is sad and tender. Her passionate Heaven’s Door is a slow, strong and inspiring number with considerable emotional depth.
Laurie has a fine voice which is fragile and innocent yet confident. With a delicate charm she tells stories which have thoughtful, inspiring and eloquent lyrics. Laurie has successfully created an album with both a contemporary and traditional feel which is fresh, pleasant and soulful.
