Avastera – The Clocks Have Ticked Too Long
aaamusic | On 03, Dec 2012
A dreadful excuse for an EP, listening to The Clocks Have Ticked Too Long is one sure fire way of making time go more slowly. Clichés abound in this overlong, overblown piece of work which lacks any originality or musical inspiration. All the songs go on for far too long, the lyrics are unimaginative sentimental claptrap and the band endlessly repeat themselves, allowing for virtually no contrast between the tracks. Worst of all is the standard metal grunting and growling that first rears its ugly head during second number As The Tables Turn. The songwriting is noisy and chaotic from start to finish, and the band seem to have absolutely no interest in exploring the diverse world of harmony, rhythm and texture, instead relying on the bland and the banal, including chord sequences which have been used to death and melodies that are completely unmemorable, unappealing and formulaic. I couldn’t wait for the EP to end.
