Tinlin – Shade of the Shadows

| On 12, Nov 2012

The album opens with glorious guitar melodies and wonderful vocal harmonies on their track, Do I Deny. Rolf and Alex Tinlin’s vocals and instrumentals blend together to produce an opener which is sleek and polished but yet doesn’t lose its raw beauty in the process. The lyrics are simple but effective, the instruments and vocals are what give it such a special quality. In These Arms continues this simplicity, wonderfully effective and warm with the aura of an autumn sunset.

Steal is a bit of a weaker track, mainly because it feels like the lyrics haven’t really been written as well as they could have been. The lyrics don’t appear to be the strongest point of this album, but on this track it detracts from some of the very pretty melodies on this song. Overall, it feels to be a bit of a filler track. However, on Open Eyes, the cor anglais and mandolin really take over. The choice of instruments is wonderful on the album. Although overall the lyrics aren’t terribly special some of the instrumentals are truly gorgeous.

Still Here is also beautiful instrumentally. The lyrics are Tinlin’s typical romantic style. And although the bulk of music has the theme of love it feels clichéd in places. So while technically it is a lovely album, the cheesiness would probably put a lot of people off. But if you are someone who adores conventional love songs, then this album is one for you.
