BEN CAPLAN & THE CASUAL SMOKERS – In The Time Of The Great Remembering
aaamusic | On 12, Nov 2012
Versatile Canadian singer-songwriter Ben Caplan, from Nova Scotia on the east coast, plays traditional folk, blues, soul and jazz. He’s always worked with a constantly changing group of musicians playing bass, violin, piano, cello, flute and sax.
Ben’s full length album is available in the UK on November 12th, 2012 on the Audio Blood Media label. His diverse, well produced, earthy and introspective ballads tell intriguing and innovative stories.
Jazzy Conduit introduces a Tom Waits influenced mood whilst Southbound is a smoother ballad. Down To The River and Stranger are suicide and murder ballads respectively. Drift Apart is a quiet and tender song about the breakup of a relationship and Seed Of Love is a sweet, slow melody.
This is experimental music inspired by gypsy and European influences. His likeable material is poetic, dramatic and theatrical in an eccentric yet intimate way. Ben’s wild, bushy and unkempt beard gives him a bohemian appearance. His rugged, powerful vocals are quite distinctive and he boldly roars and growls like an extremely angry musician. These are exciting songs from a talented artist.
