The Lost Souls Club – The Storm Sessions EP

| On 05, Nov 2012

Apparently recorded over three days of consecutive storms, The Lost Souls Club’s new EP has an interesting story to it. It has a stripped back and basic feel to it and an atmosphere very reminiscent of Nick Cave. The vocals have a sinister singe to them and the music has an angsty aura to it which can sometimes be hard to achieve in an acoustic setting, especially in God Knows, which works as a very catchy and gritty opener. It Ain’t Over has a softer feel, almost delicate in contrast to its sinister predecessor. The harmonica gives the track a melancholy feel commonly associated with bluesy Americana.

Heathen has a gothic feel to it, in the lyrics, the music and especially the vocals. The vocalist sounds like he’d be a great singer for a Goth band. The track is wonderfully grizzly and catchy. It certainly works with the environment that the band was working with, storms and drizzly rain pouring outside.

I’d recommend the EP for fans of Nick Cave and Johnny Cash due to the influences behind the album. Overall, a brilliantly broody and sinister EP with a sensitive touch running underneath.
