THOMAS NEWMAN – Skyfall

| On 28, Oct 2012

Skyfall, by successful composer Thomas Newman, is the soundtrack to the 23rd James Bond film of the same name. Half a century of Bond films has now passed and he’s become the ninth composer . It’s the first time he’s done a Bond soundtrack but his fifth collaboration with director Sam Mendes.

Released on October 29th, 2012 in the UK, Skyfall is published by Sony Classical.  It includes the timeless James Bond Theme, written by Monty Norman, but not the title song by Adele. The film is directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.

Many traditional Bond tracks have become classic pieces of cinematic music. They’re marvelous in supporting great action and adventure where a touch of wit is thrown in. They form the backdrop to dark tales about loyalty and betrayal.

John Barry has been the most regular contributor to the Bond series and other  composers have a tough act to follow. However, this soundtrack has suspense, drama and emotion. It takes you on a journey through spectacular scenery and, with its exotic eastern charm, sounds like what you expect 007 music to be.  As a fine and original album, you could say its a potential killer. We’ll have to see if it strikes gold.
