Despite her presence on the various social networks, singer-songwriter Candice Gordon has managed to retain an air of mystery – there isn’t much information about her background on the ol’ Internet, aside from the fact that she is now based in Berlin (having apparently been brought up in Botswana).

‘Cannibal Love’ is her new single, and comes off the back of a run of numerous warmly received single releases (she has yet to release an album, it seems). It’s an excellent two minutes of snarling, swampy punk rock – rock’n’roll drums propel an energetic, simplistic surf punk riff, and Candice Gordon’s Karen O-esque shriek. Bonkers, but brilliant.

The b-side ‘I See Demon’ is also a fine tune – a relaxed, folky ballad, with eerie acoustic strumming and gentle vocals.

Candice Gordon is a very interesting new artist, certainly worth checking out.
