Skip&Die – Love Jihad

I’m going to start this off by saying that, since 2012 begun, I don’t think my ears have heard anything as bad as this, however; this song is also looking to become my guilty pleasure of the year.
For me at least, it’s one of those songs that you feel like you shouldn’t like but you can’t help it. I have listened to this song so many times and I know it’s pretty bad and yet I can’t help but like it, secretly.
The lyrics are really bad. The whole concept of the song is a bit risky – ‘Love Jihad’ has all kinds of connotations attached to it. Even with all this in mind though, I still find myself listening to it every now and then.
I don’t know anything about the band/artist, so I can’t enlighten you as to who they are, when they formed, or anything like that – all I can do is tell you that their sound reminds me of something I’ve heard before but can’t put my finger on. This is quite a clever thing really because it’s probably this mystery that keeps me going back to listen again.
It’s refreshing to hear a woman singing/rapping in such a fashion. Her voice suits the musical genre although I’m not sure about the way she elongates certain words or deliberately stutters on her words. I’m not adverse to a bit of deliberate stuttering (there’s probably a professional word for this, I just don’t know it) but when it’s done every two seconds, it can begin to get a bit annoying.
I really like the beat and melody of the song. It’s catchy and helps to make the song more pleasant to listen to. I still don’t think I should like it though. It’s like an internal war between whether I like it or not. Check it out and make your own mind up!
