MARY GAUTHIER – Live At Blue Rock
aaamusic | On 02, Oct 2012
After twelve years of endlessly touring the world with her acoustic guitar and harmonica, talented American folk singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier is releasing her first live recording.
Live At Blue Rock was recorded live at Blue Rock Artists Ranch near Austin Texas and is released on 1st October, 2012 in the UK on Proper Records.
Last Of The Hobo Kings is a southern gothic tale full of drama and atmosphere. In The Rocket an old man sits at a station watching the trains and remembers one that took his son away to war and didn’t bring him back again. Karla Faye is the sorrowful tale of a drug addicted Texan prostitute who entered death row and was executed 15 years later. In Cigarette Machine a lost and haunted individual calls an ex-lover’s name outside a mission at sunrise.
Mary sings very real and bittersweet songs which are intense. They’re about wounded people with sad lives that the world has treated extremely badly. With great humanity and emotion she tells stories about pain, despair and harshness, but also the determination to survive despite traumatic circumstances.
Tania Elizabeth’s fiddle playing is superb with a raw, mournful and despairing feel. Mike Meadows is also excellent on percussion, both contributing valuably to these soulful and passionate songs full of world weary observations.
