‘Walk Away’ is the new single from Gabby Young & The Other Animals’ second album – ‘The Band Called Out For More’ – released earlier this year.

It is an eccentric piano-pop number, with a heavy dose of soul and bulky brass accompaniment. Gabby Young’s voice is high and hearty, featuring that kind of choral quiver that Florence (and the Machine) and Marina (and the Diamonds) abuse, but here it is soothingly restrained. To be honest, it’s one hell of a voice. In terms of music, ‘Walk Away’ is jazz bar, baroque-pop in the vein of Fiona Apple – nothing particularly original, but finely crafted.

Gabby & The Other Animals are known for their ability to try their hand at different styles, and this new single is vastly different from any of the other songs I’ve come across – whereas their other songs have been faster paced and more straightforward pop, ‘Walk Away’ is a little more brooding, and all the better for it.
