Never underestimate the power of a great song. Street Party in Soho take all the necessary tropes associated with so-called Landfill Indie (regional accents, cheesewire guitars, danceable rhthyms, guitars strapped up to their chests) and manage to throw all assumptions one might have about them back in their face with sheer force of songwriting. Yes, it might sound rather too much like Two Door Cinema Club in a purely objective sense but only a joyless berk would focus on that over this track’s soaring chorus, crystalline guitar lines and singer Ryan Young’s impassioned vocals. All in all, unexpected. Unexpectedly romantic, unexpectedly heartfelt, unexpectedly genius.
