Society – All That We’ve Become

I would love to start this review with a little bit of information about Society but the truth of the matter is I don’t know anything about them. Google didn’t exactly prove too helpful either – all I managed to learn was that apparently they’re from Reading. Whether it’s one person, two people, or a band behind Society is beyond me. So here’s what I can tell you about them…
The singer sounds a little bit like Robbie Williams. Actually, quite a lot like Robbie – at least to me. Given that Robbie Williams has one of the most distinctive voices in pop and has had a pretty successful career, sounding like him can only ever be a good thing, right? Possibly. It depends on whether the rest of the song is good or not, I guess.
‘All That We’ve Become’ is really easy to listen to and has a really relaxed feel to it but it’s nothing ground-breaking. It’s not the kind of song that gets stuck in your head or one that you struggle to forget. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the track is awful, I’m merely saying it’s not particularly great either. There’s great potential for Society. They’ve got good vocals and a mellow sound on their side; I just think this song is too mellow.
The lyrics are also pretty good. So far none of them have stuck in my head but I’ve enjoyed listening to them a lot. They’re fairly easy to relate to which is always nice. There’s another positive for the mysterious artist behind this track – pretty good lyrics.
The track itself sounds really familiar to me. When I first put it on, I was certain I’d heard it before but now I’m not so sure. I’m not sure if it’s because the vocals sound like Robbie Williams or because it’s been used somewhere before. All I know is it sounds like something I’ve heard before.
Overall, the track has some good points to it – good lyrics, mellow sound, Robbie Williams sound-a-like as lead vocals – but, for me at least, it’s too mellow. It’s not something I’m likely to rush to put on again.
