Halfway To New York – What a Way To Go

Here’s another dull pop-rock ballad from the simpering sensitive souls that make up Halfway To New York. As familiar as your own reflection, there really isn’t much excuse for the overwhelming blandness of this song. Check out the hopelessly clichéd opening lyrics: “Eight o’clock with a silhouette cigarette, catching up with the bottom of the bottle.” I can only assume they’re referring to a bottle of fruit squash, judging by their squeaky clean market branding. There’s nothing here that you won’t have heard a million times before from the likes of Snow Patrol and The Script. It’s got a standard pop sheen about it and is consequently listenable, but lacks any individuality whatsoever and is as forgettable as a daytime TV quiz show.
