All-star Colombian group Ondatrópica release their debut album this week through Soundway Records as they gear up for their first ever UK shows. A 12 piece Ondatrópica touring band headline the Hackney Empire on Friday 20th July before appearing on The Americas stage at The BT River of Music on 22nd July.
Conceived by Colombian musician Mario Galeano, the force behind the band Frente Cumbiero, and English producer Will ‘Quantic’ Holland, Ondatrópica brings together an all-star cast representing both the classic and modern styles of la musica Colombiana.
The 12 piece live band includes 74 year old Michi Sarmiento, crowned the Godfather of Ondatrópica during the recording process, 82 year old flautist Pedro Ramayá, singer Markkitos Micolta and a group of younger musicians that includes singer Nidia Góngora, beatboxer and percussionist Chongo, Quantic and Mario Galeano.
