“I’ve woken up with Match Light in my head every day for the past two weeks.” – Alex Baker, Kerrang! Radio
“a slow-building, sky-scraping indie anthem in the making.” – The Girls Are
“‘Match Light’ showcases four excellently crafted and delivered power-pop/rock morsels that will undoubtedly sound huge live.” – Punktastic
“They’re ready to ignite.” – Shout 4 Music
Following a sold-out EP release show this week, Joia have unveiled their debut collection of tracks for free download. The four track EP features the single Match Light which has already been getting plays from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs on XFM, as well as Kerrang! and Q Radio. The band has also been chosen to play at the Olympics through Emerging Icons and will have a song included on a CD being released as part of the initiative.
Joia are more than happy to see their debut release available to all. And for free, no less! “The EP is a biography of where we started and hopefully a hint of where we’re going. I think it means everything to the band that the tracks are out there for people to enjoy, which is why we have made it available as a free download.”
‘Enough of You’ and ‘Our Time’ are some of the first material that Joia ever came up with as a unit with ‘Match Light’ and ‘Let Down’ coming a few months later. They say that “because we had a lot more writing experience together by this time and we felt a lot more comfortable within the band, so our sound starts to really form in these two. They’re a little bit darker and a lot more of our musical inspirations begin to creep through. ‘Match Light’ is an emotionally fuelling song with a lot of ups and downs, which makes it one of our favorites. ‘Let Down’ is a melodic and melancholy song with a feisty chorus.”
