Zann Family – Coronation of the Mercurial

If you’re looking for some weird and crazy experimental and electronic drone music, then this is the record for you. Clocking up to nearly half an hour in length, this one track album is not for the simple hearted. It has an ambient style to it that can be difficult to appreciate. At times it gives you a sense of being in a psychedelic and strange world, complete with unexplainable twinkling sounds, creepy voices and alien instrumentals. Now, that’s what happens if you have an open mind and a very good imagination. If you find it hard to appreciate weird music this will pass right over your head despite its lovely fusion of strange acoustics and eccentric electronics. There are some lovely parts of the album, it takes you on a musical journey and tells a story that some lyrics and traditional song formatting are sometimes not able to.
Overall, it’s an intriguing piece and I would certainly recommend approaching it with an open mind and giving it a try before sighing and saying, ‘is this what is called art nowadays?’ It really is worth a listen.
