The Enemy – Like a Dancer

There’s a somewhat mawkish sentimentality about this single from Coventry crew The Enemy, taken from their new album Streets in the Sky. Musically, it’s simple indie pop material; bland and rather forgettable, it features nothing of any originality or distinction, but is competently executed nonetheless. The chord sequence is immediately familiar, the guitar riffs are fatally tame, and the instrumentation is predictable and unimaginative. However, this all fits the feel of the song, an upbeat ode to a girl who dreams of being “like a dancer” –insipid subject matter which is as uninspired as the music itself. In fairness, some people may well find it all rather affecting; personally, I was very bored.
