Girl Peculiar – Believe
aaamusic | On 09, Jul 2012
Last year proved to be a brilliant year for Girl Peculiar and if this single is anything to go by, 2012 will be even better. ‘Believe’ combines breath-taking vocals with equally as good lyrics.
The song itself seems to be spreading the message of believing in yourself. The chorus especially points out the importance to believe in what you can do and the person you are, particularly when you’re in situations that you’re not used to or have never been in before. For this reason alone, the song is incredibly empowering and inspiring.
When you combine that with the excellent vocals, you know this song is set to go to great heights. The vocals remind me somewhat of Florence and the machine, only, dare I say it, better. Whenever I listen to a Florence song, I find myself turning it off halfway through but the vocals from Girl Peculiar kept me hooked. If you could imagine a breathy voice but with some oomph behind it, that’s what the vocals of this song sound like. They’re incredible and showcase the talented voice behind Girl Peculiar.
As previously mentioned, the lyrics are also great. They’re strong, powerful, but not over-the-top complicated. They’re easy to remember too, which is always good with songs. There aren’t many songs available now that seem to spread a positive message about self-esteem, confidence, and belief in your own abilities, but this one does. It’s what sets it apart from everything I’ve heard recently.
This song has a great combination of three things; vocals, lyrics and melody. It’s one of those songs that makes you feel incredibly chilled and relaxed yet, at the same time, you find yourself wanting to dance. This style of song is, for me, my favourite because they suit any mood.
If you’ve never heard of Girl Peculiar before, definitely check this song out!
