Skull And Bones – Folks

Well, shucks. It looks like there’s a difference between being influenced by a band and merely sounding like a band. Hailing from the North-East of this fair country Folks’ first single sounds like Supergrass covering Mr Blue Sky and, in theory, this should be excellent. What Folks don’t realise is that glam piano stomps and some grungy sounding guitars don’t automatically summon the impish wit and youth of the former band or the dizzying pop hooks and sheer, unadalterated joy of the latter song. So in all, it sounds… alright. Decent. Ish. And when a debut single makes you want to listen to the bands that it sounds like over the band that actually made it, something has gone drastically wrong indeed.
