Et Tu Brucé- Suburban Sunshine

Et Tu Brucé are a pop/rock/alt-folk quartet from London, likened mostly to The Beach Boys, The Shins, The Kinks and Beta Band. They will release their debut album “Suburban Sunshine” in July 2012. The album opens with “Dress Me Up in Bruises” an easy listening song- if a little repetitive. However the more than “Suburban Sunshine” goes on I really start to understand and enjoy the sound of Et Tu Brucé.
“The Turning of the Screw” is a lovely layered song- with a slight surf rock vibe. There is a certain sense of melancholy to be heard in the vocals throughout- which culminates in the lines “I lost the sunshine inside of me, and blamed it all on you- the turning of the screw”.
‘It’s All Nothing’ is another great track, slightly edgier than other tracks on Suburban Sunshine, there is a raw, rugged element to the song which is interesting to hear- Et Tu Brucé show great diversity of styles between their tracks, yet they manage to keep a signature sound- which is no easy feat.
“Never Say Trevor Again” is a cute, quirky song that has great lyrics and makes excellent use of harmonies over the line “never say Trevor again”- it is easy to hear why this band has been compared to The Beach Boys.
‘This City’ and ‘Never Seen You Cry’ are highlights for me, both singles they highlight all that is good about this band- catchy melodies, a chilled out vibe and great production on the tracks giving these songs a highly polished tone.
