Sound Of Guns – Antarctica

To paraphrase a genius, Antarctica, the new single from Liverpool based rockers Sound of Guns, is big. Really big. You just can’t comprehend how massively, hugely, mind bogglingly big it is. Except you kind of can because it kind of sounds exactly like Jon Bon Jovi fronting Coldplay. Everything is thrown into the mix, strings, a massive chorus, the kitchen sink, Andrew Metcalfe’s kind of gravelly, massively over emoting voice, there’s even church bells, for the love of God. As is nearly always the case with massive things there is an awful lot of empty space in the record, and for all it’s posturing it utterly fails to be vital, exciting, stirring or even particularly memorable. In short it one to be left well alone. Future Of The Left release their new album this week and their mutated, twisted punk-metal will always mean more to me than the contents of this record, check them out instead, they don’t sound like a focus-grouped U2, and thank fuck for that.
