‘Shut Your Mouth’ is the latest single to be taken from “Meet me in Spanish City” the debut album by Newcastle band- the Longsands. This single embodies the signature sound of The Longsands and was an obvious choice for a single release. “Shut Your Mouth” is catchy right from the get-go with quirky guitar riffs throughout giving the song an indie feel. The lyrics are interesting and tell a story which grabs my attention immediately and manages to keep me captivated as the song moves on.
The Longsands have a very polished sound, which gives their music possible mainstream appeal. This song would definitely be a contender for commercial radio play. However it is nice to see that the band have also recorded an acoustic version of this song which shows a different side. In the stripped back, acoustic version “Shut Your Mouth” becomes reminiscent of the acoustic rock sounds of Travis or Oasis. If this song is anything to go by then “ Meet me in Spanish City” is definitely worth a listen.
